I think it is a very smart move. Ind Rail made some very nice "entry level items" and if you can establish brand identity with entry level newcomers, logic dictates that there is a very good chance they will, if the interest grows, move into their Trainman and premium lines. [2c]

K-LIne and Industrial Rail were my 2 favorite companies b/c of the low price. Who has the lowest price stuff now? You know, like $17 boxcars?

Old news, to be sure, but one of the best moves Atlas could make. The IR cars were pretty darn neat, and very affordable. I have a half-dozen or so of their log cars, and they are really very nice.

Atlas needs to pay more attention to the entry-level market, and to catering a bit to those of us who are perfectly happy with traditional (O27-size) rolling stock that we can buy in sufficient quantities without busting the budget.

You can be quite sure that there are a whole lot more potential customers out there who are interested in this kind of offering than there are rivet-couters who will only go for the true-to-scale stuff. And I'm sure Atlas has found that if they leave so much as a rivet off one of those higher-end models, the sales go down the tubes after someone reports it in a online forum.

I have a set of 3 Industrial Rail coal hoppers. They are beautiful cars, but derailed constantly until I took Brianel's advice and opened up the couplers with a dremel tool. Now they track fine and are a great addition to our layout. I bought the 3 car Frisco set at Discount Trains for $19.00 last year. I see the same set at shows for $39 - $50.
