Wiring a DZ2500 switch machine
Posted by tschmidt on Thursday, July 21, 2005 6:19 PM
Hi all,

I just installed a Ross switch with a DZ2500 switch machine. My other switches use DZ1000 machines. I run them through an SC2 and use my CAB1 remote to control them. I don't have any switch buttons, just wired to the SC2 and they work fine. The 2500 has multiple wires where the 1000 only takes 3 wires. I don't want to use any buttons with the 2500, just the CAB1. Can anyone tell me how to wire it?

Thanks, Tom

I should also say that there are 6 wires on the 2500. Which ones do I use...and connect to where?

Thanks again, Tom

Tom - Have you tried going to the Ross web site? If I remember Z-Stuff also has a web site. Try a search for Z-Stuff or look through CTT for an address. Gargraves may be another source.

Roger,

Thanks for that info. I did check some of those places. I am confused by the whole thing. Just wondering if there was a simple solution. I want to connect this 2500 and see how it works and if all is well I am going to change my 1000's to 2500's but I have to do the upgrade before the end of the month.

Tom, I just looked at the Z-Stuff web site, www.z-stuff.net. The DZ-2500 wiring diagram is under Applications. To use it with the CAB-1 you need the DZ-2001 interface for your command base. If you don't want derail hook-up don't make the rail connection, same for the pushbuttons.

If all else fails e-mail Dennis at z-stuff, I,ve found him extremely helpful in the past. Good luck.

Roger,

Thanks again. I see where I plug the 2001 into the command base. I currentlt have the TPC plugged into that command base. Any ideas on how to get them both plugged in?

Tom, I'm not familiar with the plug but if its a computer type plug take one of the components to Radio Shack and see if they can match it with a Y-splitter. . Or the base, or TPC, instructions may tell you the style. As a last resort try your Lionel dealer, probably more costly if available.

Roger,

I will give the splitter idea a try. I appreciate all your help.
