Need DCS help

Gee, it's been a while and I forgot how to hook it up (I'm at work getting ready to run a demo).

Do the 2 wires from the track to to the fixed voltage in and does it matter which wire is which?

Secondly, do the wires from the fixed Out 1 go to the transformer via the bannana plug adapter wire and does it matter which wire is which?

I'm using Rev. H1 TCU and plan to run in the DCS mode. Using Z750 and running about 25 feet of track.

Dave,

Black is common (outside rails). Variable OUT1 goes to track.

Hook the Z750 to VAriable Voltage IN1 (very important - must always power IN1 even if not using VAriable OUT1 as this is how the TIU is powered.).

Holler if you need something else.

Dave, If you are going to use command only and power the TIU from track power, then,

1. Red from transformer to red input fix 1 ( will also provide power to TIU) you will need min of 16 volts.

2. Black from transformer to Black input fix 1.

3. Red OUTput from TIU to center rail

4. Black Output from TIU to outside rail

Good catch Tom,

I use an aux power supply for mine so I forgot that Fixed 1 IN is required to be wired to the TIU to power the TIU.

So Dave, if you are going to use the variable out for a conventional loco, you have to wire the Z750 to BOTH the VAR 1 IN and FIXED 1 IN.

Then wire to the track from either VAR 1 OUT or FIXED 1 OUT depending on whether you are using conventional or command locos respectively.

thx guys; I'm glad I asked. I forgot to bring my special cable from TIU to the brick so will need to power up tomorrow. I'm really glad I asked since I misplaced my instruction manual.

BTW, here's the progress thus far: 1st photo is left peninsula where there will be a yard; 2nd photo is the dogbone around the computer monitor and phone and 3rd photo is the right peninsula, which will be an industrial area.

Gee, II've barely got any workspace!

I'll bore you w/more photos as the industries are erected and vehicular traffic finds its way. If this were my permanent layout, I would even hi-rail the look.

OK, here's the update on the demo.

The TIU works fine after MTH fixed it for free (a loose screw shorted out the circuit board).

It took me a while to figure out why no sound was coming from the 2-8-0 RK. The tether had come loose. I was surprised that the train still runs without the tether but it actually does. Hope I didn't do any harm.

Is it OK to run w/out the tether? People loved the engine sounds but after a few minutes of it, got annoyed as they have cognitive work to do. If I could run it silent, would be good. I know I can cut the sound using the handheld, but the tether ensures it won't accidentally come on.

The performance was not steller, as the RK derailed about half the time going thru the 027 switches. I may bring in my SW-9 RK as it stays on the track much better.

The full-bird colonel said that in all his decades of Army service, he's never seen a desktop as strange as mine. I don't know whether or not to take that as a compliment. Fortunately, I do extremely well at my work and try not to run the train too often.

Dave,I would not run without the tether. To turn your sounds off, you should have a volume adjustment pot on the bottom of the tender. turn it CCW, this should turn your sound all the way down. you should also set the sounds off using the handheld.

Dave, I do not believe that most of mine will run without the tether pluged in. I also don't fell it is wise to do.

If you don't want any noise, either go into the menu and turn it off or as you already know, there is a volume control and also a mute button on the remote.

The volume control under the tender does not work in commade mode.
