Lionels 6401 25 Questions
Posted by danielslionel on Sunday, April 18, 2021 9:00 AM

I saw the video about the tank car 6401 25 being forest green I talked to a few  in the bussiness .

They feel that payton plastic would of sent Lionel a olive green  instead of a forest green if supplies ran out ,

Mine is olive green and has the Q  under it

has anybody have any thoughts of posibly Lionel could of use what ever they got from payton plastic and posibly thier is more than one color they sent

Thanks for the information.....

PS I have the same Question about the jeep and cannon colors  . If you have any thoughts a bout that ...

Doubtful. The 1964 version was ordered for a very specific number of Sears sets.

And this was repeated in 1965 with a different production run of the tank with a slightly different color.

It would be more likely that Payton packed any overruns into their play sets to save money.

thank-you for the reply!...  The reason I asked is becuase  of the confusion I see when I tried to  buy them..

I pointed out teh forest green to the 4 sellers that had them for sale

One claimed  that he knew Joe form the CTT video and becuase of low production  for these items anything could of been sent

one big NJ dealer has two dark green cloinming to me that since it has the letter Q it would of been used by lionel

the other two just felt from when they bought them it came from the orgianl owners

Personaly I got teh drab  jeep/cannon and tank becuase it matches teh olive gondolla and hopper and caboose I have perfectly  all three items have letters inder my payton plastic cars

But if I ever saw forest green at a show or for sale (hint hint) I take it !

my only thoghts is back in 64/65 with production so low and not in normal dealer hands  how many survived or where made .

again thank-you for your reply! it does confirm my thoughts if I could of found a forest green  items I would of bought them..daniel
