Odyssey Motor!
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 6, 2020 12:59 PM

 Hi all,

It has been a while since I've been on, since I stopped buying after the sale of the Archives by the 'Lionel' branded company.

I did come across this and thought it was worth sharing as I have never seen anything like it.  Probably one of a kind i would guess.

From the Neil Young collection, an "Odyssey" Prototype F3.  I'd love to see this thing running.  Enjoy.

Interesting that Odyssey F3 with the clear plastic shell.  That's not the first time for Lionel, some clear plastic 2333 F3's were produced in 1948, if I remember correctly they were intended as salesman's samples and toy trade show demonstrators.

I don't know if Odyssey motors ever went into production, I have heard mixed opinions on them.

The Odyssey motor never went into production. Too expensive to produce and Engineer-on-Board, other back-EMF, and timing tape speed controls greatly improved DC can motor performance. There was no need and no return on investment at the time.
