I'l trying to locate a new DC motor for my days old Lionel DC 2-4-0 steam engine. It came in the "Micro Racers" set from K-Mart I believe. Thanks!

The loco seems to be similar to most of the older DC can motored steam locos, and the motor would be #8008-105. The Train Tender carries the motor.

It only runs well at top speed. Otherwise it is erratic to the point of stopping.

What type of transformer are you using that is a DC engine so your transformer needs to have DC out put. It would run erratic if your using a AC output transformer ( which most lionel engines use( Lionel made some lower cost sets back in the 70's that ran on DC) which would mean it doesn't need a new motor. with that I would say you don't need a motor anyway, it's something else as your motor is working.

It's DC. It is original to the set. I tried an HO dc power pack and had the same results. I ended up ordering a new DC motor for $18.00 total. We'll see.

Well hope that is it. You could try removing the motor from the engine scence your going to anyway and attaching two wires from the transformer to it and see if it does the same thing out of the engine. Then you would know for sure it is the motor.

That may fix it. I had a Thomas that the motor ran the same. Even though it is AC engine the motor is DC after the power goes through the circuit board. New motor and it was fine.

Good luck .
