If you belong to the TCA (and you should), then the best is the York Meet held twice a year. Nothing comes close.

"Resources-Coming Events" is pretty darn accurate, I use it a lot.
And if you've never been to a train show, you're in for a real treat!
PS: Bring money.
PPS: Bring more money! Not that train show shopping is expensive, mind you. Just that it's WAY too easy to start having fun at them!

I find this one to be good because you can filter by state.
Since most train shows repeat year after year, I have bookmark list of shows that I add to as I find shows.

The closest any of those shows get is in Florida......about a 7 hour drive from where I live.
Mississippi is a veritable desert, when it comes to shows. What a difference from when I lived in Newport News, Virginia. There was usually at least one show every 3 months. I didn't realize how good I had it at the time!
Keep checking "Resources-Coming Events" periodically. If none of the big train shows like Greenbergs or "Worlds Greatest Hobby On Tour" come down Mississippi way there may be the occasional half-day show sponsored by local train clubs. Those can be well worth attending as well, you never know what you'll find.
I wouldn't drive seven hours for a train show either, two hours is my max. However, before I take a trip somewhere I check "Coming Events" to see if anythings going on where I'll be. For example, I'll be in New Jersey in March and there's a Greenberg show that weekend, so I'll be attending unless something else comes up.
Depending where you are in Mississippi I would think there would be something near New Orleans, Mobile, Memphis at least once a year I'm like you thou I'm an hour from Columbia, S.C. been to one there and didn't really think it was worth it. the closest to me would be Atlanta, or Charlotte, One day I will make the trip to York about 11 hours for me with stops for conveniences seeing I will have wife with me and I'm getting older. I use to live in Picyune when I was younger for about 3 years and remember running from Memphis to Jackson later in life when stationed in Memphis in the Navy for other things. I also remember doing the run from Gulfport to Jackson when in the Navy for other things too. A lot of time train shows show up you don't know about some of the smaller ones and sometimes there the best. Keep checking that link that was posted above www.Railserve.com as more show up there than anywhere I know also.

I know York is the best, but the big Amherst railway show is in West Springfield MA this weekend. That's a real good one too!
There's quite a few You Tube videos posted on the Amherst train show. Looks amazing!
I should add that when I said "Bring money" in an earlier post I didn't mean all the stuff at a train show is a wallet-killer. What I meant was you're going to see a lot of stuff you didn't know you needed, at least until you saw it!
