Looking for some help in locating the track plan for this display layout from 1957. Any help much appreciated.
CTT published the plan in 2014 I believe, sometime in the summer. You ought to be able to search it.
It's in Kalmbach's new book but does not show the track plan. Bet Roger Carp would knw.

Follow up question: Does anyone know of a comprehensive index of Lionel display layouts? I bought the CTT special edition of Lionel's Best layouts and Store Displays, but I was disappointed there was no index of accessories by layout.
I'm in a condo and space is limited, so currently my only layout is under the Christmas tree and obviously only out for about 6 weeks a year. Until my wife and I move to a larger, single family home (some years down the road yet) I figure my best bet at a permanent layout would be reproducing a Lionel store display. They're relatively small, but packed with action.
Most of my trains and accessories are originals from the post-war era handed down from my grandfather. I'd love to find a comprehensive list of accessories (and probably track plans too) for as many of the post-war era store displays as possible. That way I can compare with what I've got and choose the display that most closely matches.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!
I am in the same boat, my train room is only 8 foot by 9 foot. No plans to move to a larger house anytime soon. I am thinking the same thing you are, a small display type layout, but I also plan hinge it to the wall and have it close into a frame on the wall. Frame will probably be 1x8 or 1x10 wood to give enough depth for some buildings to be perminantly mounted down, along with some details like street lights ect. So I am also hunting a track plan using O31 track that my 2343's wont look totaly overwhelming running on. Mike

I would LOVE to see photos or plans of that Mike! That may be the perfect solution....
I need a 4x6 or 4x7 track plan as a full 4x8 would drag the walls when I try to lower it. It also needs to not have mountains or have them like in the corner so I can make them removable so the layout can close. I wish I had pictures of my friends layout, but I don't. I do have a pic of my friend Brian and I working on my 4x6 Lionel layout in our basement when I was around 7 or 8 years old. Mike
I planned it all out tonight, then went to Lowe's to price it all out. I am going to use 1x12's for the wall frame work, it will be held to the wall with 8 "L" brackets that tie it to the wall studs, there are 2 "L" brackets mounted at each corner of the frame on the inside to create the wall frame itself. I will use 1x4's to create the table part of the layout, with a plywood top and a very thin plywood bottom/face to hide the layouts wiring. All will be stained with Helmsman Spar Varnish like I use on my boat. There will be 4 heavy duty hinges along the bottom, two 2x2 wood legs will fold down from the bottom to support the layout in the lowered position. Then 2 twist latches will keep it closed in the raised position. Layout size will be 4x7. Pics to follow once I get kitchen clearance to purchase supplies. Mike
CTT published "Classic Lionel Display Layouts You Can Build" by Roger Carp back in 2000. It list 23 D-xxx display layouts from -103 to -403. It contains a total of 95 pages. A great reference well worth the price if you can find it on eBay.

Mike, you are officially my hero! Please do post photos as you progress. I am SUPER interested to see how it goes!
Outstanding! Excellent suggestion Papa-D, thanks!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news...but the 192 isn't in the book.

Trains, trains, wonderful trains. The more you get, the more you toot!
You're right Becky. However there are several 4' x 6' O27 layouts (D-103, -133, -162, -189, and -289). The -289 is the most complex with a separate elevated loop and passing siding on the the main loop. The others are simple rectangular layouts with a passing siding. The O layouts are all 4' x 8' or 5' x 9'.
Any leads on where to find the 192?
"Lionel Postwar Instruction Sheets Volume lV" DVD, available from FROM www.Trainpaper.com has a track plan, wiring diagram and assembly instructions for the Lionel D-192 layout made in 1957.
