Reality Check
Posted by gottcent on Saturday, October 17, 2015 1:41 PM

Just a quick reality check: Am I right in believing that if you create an oval of Lionel 3-rail track and then add a reversing loop stretching diagonally from one end of the oval to the other, that you can wire this simply with one lockon connected anywhere in the circuit? In other words, that the reversing loop requires no special wiring?

No special wiring is required for track power when using reversing loops. The center rail will always be the center rail, and the outside rails will always be the outside rails.

If you are using non-derailing switches, you will need fiber pins in the usual locations.

You'll only need extra lock-ons if you need to boost the power at the point farthest from your main lock-on (at transformer).  As long as the wires to any additional power points are the same configuration as the original, all will be well.

Thanks, guys. I thought that was the case, but the older I get, the more I tend to doubt what "I thought was the case."
