I was running my RailKing (Imperial) Pennsy K4 last weekend and the fan/chuffing effect unit quit. (no "fan whine" smoke being blown out the stack)
Now the smoke just eminates from under the front of the loco body.
Have any of you guys had this happen? if so, what is the diagnosis? (fuse?, blown electronics?)
do I have to sent this engine out to an MTH repair shop? I have been running this engine with a Postwar ZW
Your thoughts are appriciated.
If you are mechanically inclined remove boiler from frame then look for smoke unit should be a one screw removal after getting smoke unit assembly out of boiler remove screws on circuit board.
Remove circuit board so you can see the fan impeller now look at circuit board on top side at rear it should say AC + and AC- if you have a 9 volt battery and a set of alligator test jumper wires attach one jumper wire to each ac - and + and clip other end to the 9 volt battery matters not which goes where as all you want to do is verify the fan either spins or doesn't.
most likely the fan has died and are available from MTH or any MTH hobby shops with a repair center.
hope that helps you
my RK M1a did that once, and I turned the transformer off, and back on and all was fine.
