Boxes for prewar trains

Hi,

I have several prewar train cars and a couple of engines that I'd like to take off of my display racks and box up for now.  That way I can put other cars in my collection up. 

What's the best way to store them?  Are there boxes available from somewhere?  My main focus is just to be able to store them safely.

I use baseball card storage boxes, I bought 100 of them some time back, they come in various lengths, and you can also buy them with two, three, or four stacks in one box.

One caution.  Wrap the cars in plastic or acid-free paper, most cardboard boxes are not acid-free and will affect the decals & paint over time.

I have used baseball card storage boxes for some items too. When Items fit, they are great, but find that they are too narrow for many pieces.
I ordered generic 4x4x18 boxes from uline. Just about anything "O" gauge will fit in them. Sometimes I shorten the box, but it is easier to just stuff some newspaper in the end when the box is too long. The length is needed for things like Budd cars, if you just have prewar, you could use a shorter box.
I was thinking about buying some corrigated wrap for odd sized items.
I beleieve there was a period when Gilbert American Flyer was using corrigated wrap, without an outer box, for some items.

Thanks.   I'll take a look at uline also.  I was thinking the baseball card boxes will work for my O27 prewar but I was going to have problems with my O gauge streamliner.   4x4x18 sounds like it work.

Reproduction Boxes, some with liners when needed, can be bought.  Figure about $3 or $4 each.

You can get window boxes in Orange & Blue with no markings.   For a little more money you can get Lionel  Authorized reproduction lettered boxes.   Check E-Bay under Lionel Boxes.   You may also find original used boxes.

Who makes reproduction boxes for Prewar Lionel? I have only seen postwar reproductions.
