www.wholesaletrains.com - anybody know anything about them?
Posted by SantaFe158 on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 1:57 PM
Does anybody have any information about this website? Any experiences ordering with them? My dad and I are looking to replace two worn out trucks on our Large Scale Bachmann Shay and it's going to be a $140 investment, my dad's kind of nervous about giving them his credit card number and would like some reviews about them before we take the plunge. So any information I can get would be greatly appreciated. (I know this is the o scale forum, I'm mostly into o scale, but am posting in different places to get more answers)

I've gotten several O Gauge items from them.  They were all delivered as advertised.  And the price was very good on each.

I have also ordered from them via the web in the past - no issues or concerns.  I believe that they operate in their local community as Lantz's Train Shop.

I've purchased from them. good to deal with and ship quickly. On back ordered items, they do charge shipping that can add up, so make sure items are in stock and check the box that says, don't allow backordering or it can add up

Wholesaletrains.com Is really Lantz's hobby shop in Horseheads, NY. It's a real store (You can see it through google maps). I've made quite a few purchases from them and they have been very responsive to any issues I have had.

If you are nervous about giving them your Credit Card number you should look into whether or not your Dad's Credit Card company has a virtual account # program which is basically a service that will generate a Credit Card # that is only good for one use and a limited dollar amount. Check on the website that allows you to view your account information on-line.

I HIGHLY ADVISE NOT BUYING FROM THEM! sorry for the caps but I cannot stress that enough, I used them once, and that was a mistake, to start out the shipping in more than other places and they don't tell you until after the order is placed, second poor customer service. this is what happened I was ordering 0-42 black tie track, I placed the order and 5 minutes later realized that I made a mistake I ordered 0-31 track! as soon as I found out I sent an email to their " customer service" and I use that word loosely, I sent 2 emails in 12 hours and when I tried to call, the phone number was bad, track came and I just made do, then I went over to trainz.com which has I found to be better prices, and they tell you the shipping cost BEFORE you place the order, I never had to use customer service so I do not know how good it is but I will never order from wholesaletrains.com ever again.

Gist of it, I Recognized my mistake and contacted them, they did not respond...  AT ALL.

They do have good prices but they make up for it on shipping charges.
