2-rail to 3-rail Truck Conversion
Posted by 3railSantaFeFan on Thursday, January 14, 2010 2:02 PM

I have some 2-rail Pecos River Brass cabooses that I want to convert to 3-rail operation.  I would like to install 3-rail caboose trucks w/couplers, center rail electrical pick-up, and prototypical leaf springs, but the units I have found from Atlas and MTH have either coil springs or no springs at all.  Although both Weaver and Sunset/3rd Rail have imported 3-rail brass cabooses, they have no 3-rail caboose trucks available as spare parts.  Are there any sources for the 3-rail caboose trucks that I am seeking?

One local hobby shop carries sets of MTH cast trucks. They sell for around $12-14. I think you can find them online for around $10. I like them as they are all metal. The coupler arm pivots but is held in place with a spring.
