I have a chance to purchase a good/excellent origional  Flying Yankee  from the early 40's late 30's..  Tell me what bug-a-boos to look for and what a fair price would be?

Are you talking about an original Lionel prewar Flying Yankee streamliner or the current remake by Lionel (Prewar Celebration Series) or something else?

Flying Yankee, 3 cars and a locomotive which has the front half made from a die-casting, the rear half of the locomotive matches the cars, 3 vestibule wheel sets.  May or may not have a whistle. Five versions of the Flying Yankee are listed with a big range of price.

Most Common,  Chrome plated cars, the front half of the locomotive is painted Gun Metal gray, the skirts on the passenger car trucks are painted black.   Check for paint chips on the locomotive and pitting of the Chrome plate.  Are the cast locomotive wheels in good shape?   Does the motor run, E-Unit work?

Very valuable, 1.  All Chrome, locomotive and cars. Just the roof of the locomotive painted black.

                        2. Dept. Store Sets, no Chrome, entire set painted silver, top of locomotive painted red, cars came with ribbed sides or with smooth sides.     Condition of paint???
