I pulled out an old 1033 transformer to use on a carpet layout with some Fastrack and it is behaving strangely. When I move the throttle, it actually is backwards, for example, if I move the throttle to what should be full power, it is actually minimal power and vice versa.
Any ideas,
Mitch

If you were the chief I would have said you have a Yankee transformer and you plug it in back wards but see its you Mitch that is a real stumper. I've never heard of that before think you need to get a hold of Bob Nelson on this one . I'm guessing but it might be something with the roller and the field .

Let me guess: You've connected the track to terminals C and U.

I had tried A-U, B-U and C-U. C-U was working backwards. After reading your post Bob, I tried A-U and voila it now is working. I must not have had the terminal lugs from the Fastrack contacts tight enough to make good contact.
Thanks for the hints.
I thought you might find the right terminals with just a hint!
If you have A connected to the outside rails and U to the center rail, the whistle control will blow the whistle of modern locomotives. Otherwise, it will ring the bell. A to the outside rails also simplifies the wiring of many accessories.
Mitch,
Perhaps I missed something, but I don't see how the tighness of the contacts had anything to do with it. Check out the section on the 1033 and its brethern near the bottom of this link. If the combination of hook-up schemes that you use is not there, it's probably best not to use it. Otherwise, strange things may happen, as you have shown.

A-U (or B-U for lower speed) is just fine, with U to the center rail.
