?Simple U shaped desk track loop?
Posted by Boyd on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 2:23 AM

I'm building a simple U shaped desk in my office. I'm using 24" wide Redishelf boards from Menards. They are attached to each other into the shape of a "U". I am thinking of attaching some thinner narrow pieces of plywood to the underside of the outside edge of the boards so the 027 track railhead is close to even with the top of the board as it runs around the outside of the boards. If I knew how to put picture up here I would.

So this will be a point to point?  How big are we talking?  With 24" wide, you should be able to get some good scenicking, or multiple train runs going at once.  There is a tutorial on how to post pictures.  Easiest is posting picks on a photo site like shutterfly, then clicking inserting the link to that picture on your post by clicking on the little picture of the tree, just left of the smiley face.  I think there is a FAQ about it too.

No.

027 curves and straights around the inside of the "U", and the outside of the "U" in one continious loop. Just track and a train to add to this desk where I will work on paperwork.

Im sure it's just me, but how do you get a 0-27 loop on a 24" board?  It doesn't fit...

I have to agree on this one, maybe he uses a table 30 inches wide at the turnarounds.

He says he's going to put plywood extensions around the edges, fastened to the underside of the desktop.  That should easily get him the 3 inches he needs.

Ok, what you explained makes sense now.  I thought those strips where going on top of the 24" boards you mentioned.  It should be cool.
