Give it your best effort, for one.  It wouldn't hurt to drop a line to Bob Keller as well, to see if they would be interested in your article.  Is it how-to, archival, or a layout feature?

Drop the editor, Carl Swanson, an email explaining what you'd like to write about, and ask him if there is any preliminary interest. He can't promise you that your article will be bought and published. But he can tell you if he has interest in the idea. If there is interest, it's up to you to submit a well written, and photographed piece.
