What do you think about the new catalogs? I like the AC6000s in CSX Scheme.

Grayson,

Those AC6000's are nice, but with the $659 MSRP, I can wait a while before that price drops. Plus, I don't see myself going into Legacy anytime soon.

My personal favorite is the Western Maryland 2-8-0 for $450. With TMCC, Railsounds and the like, that is really a nice piece. That may come to my collection, especially at that price.

I like the prewar stuff, but like the others have said, the prices are steep, I think I could restore the three steam engine sets from beaters for less than the price of one of the new sets. $680 will get you a ton of restorable trains...  That said, I would not turn either set away if I suddenly found one under the christmas tree.

This is not a complaint but an observation, there is too much released at one time what will they have left for vol. 2??? The economy the way it is now who will buy all of this stuff? How much will be canceled?

If money where no object I would get the S Bigboy, the S swing bridge, the S auto unloader, the O operating horse car acessory, the mounty rescue and all the circus stuff.Big Smile [:D]

Lots of good stuff in the new catalog. The KCS Heratige SD-70 and hoppers are awesome. Same goes for the Cotton Belt tunnel motor. The CNW S-2 switcher is just plain sweet. Finally they are doing GTAX tank train cars again that I want for my DGRW tunnel motors without paying a hefty premium for the previous run. The 60 ft PS ATSF Super Shock boxcar is another must have.

We have become spoiled. I remember 20 years ago the catalog was 35 pages and there was two engines and one set that people got excited about.

I like the 6464 variations cars... gotta have that RUTLAND solid shield!

Some of the other PWC cars are nice too, but I really wanted to buy a set of 2400 Series cars with metal frames, and maybe a PWC Series Turbine to go with.

The newer version of the NYC Ten Wheeler sure is purty.

I also like the new 0-8-0 starter set locos, and that all the venerable 4-4-2's have been up-graded with separate handrails.

Where's that new mid-sized transformer? Probably in Book 2.

Personally, I think it's fantastic - especially love the Shakespeare express. As a UK Lionel fan, it's great to see more UK locomotives come out to go along side the US offering. Definitely think I'll be getting this sometime soon.

And nearly wet myself when I saw the new Big Boy Lionmaster with legacy. Having just bought a challenger with TMCC, I think I'll be getting this along with a legacy controller as soon as I get a payrise. Finally, a Big Boy with legacy for 0-31 curves that you can buy without having to scour through the ether for Big Smile [:D]

I think the new catalogs have a great selection of nice items. There really is something for everyone in them. But I really think we have just about all the toy trains we can use, so I'm scaling back on purchases.

I would love to get the Chicago and Alten passenger cars for my 1981 engine. I am a fan of those 0-8-0 steamers and actually think I would purchase one in the future in the Lionel Lines livery. But, it doesn't state that it is diecast. Anyone know if it is. I am also excited to see that American Flyer has come a long way and am extatic about the station and platform. I always thought that was the most beautiful station ever made and always wanted one. The price has always been an issue. This new one, (although not a talking station) is pretty reasonable.

I liked the Playtime Playground. I have a small area in a 90 degree crossing loop that my wife calls the park.
I was going to buy the KLINE swing set but I think I'll order the Playtime Playground instead for animation.

I just added a playground to our layout using the K-Line swing set you are referring to, Crip. But the animation of the Playtime set would have been my first choice.

I'm not sure what you're asking, but all of Lionel's steamers have die cast shells.

Cool. Didn't realize that Lionel went to this policy. It does look like a great engine and I hope CTT does a review on it.

All of it is wonderful. That new 0-8-0 switcher is growing on me...the one that has Lionel Lines on the tender. When it comes out, you can put that one in the shed. Also, the Red Comet is wonderful. I also like the NYC hudson and the matching 18" passenger cars. That is really sweet.

In the SIGNATURE edition catalog there is a Pre-War Celebration Series.

The Red Comet is at the top of one of the pages.
