3451 + 3461 ?
Posted by traindaddy1 on Thursday, December 13, 2007 4:48 PM

Here are two questions for the forum "pros":

Will the 3451 log dump car work on the Remote-Control Track with a (I think it's called a shoe) on the bottom of only one coil type coupler?

Can the metal frame stakes on the 3461 be easily replaced? Are the stakes individual parts or they attached to the dump piece?

I KNOW, I KNOW..........Basic Train Repair 101.........As always, many thanks.

No.  Sort of.  To unload, one control rail/shoe needs center rail power, the other outside rail/ground power.

On the 3451, one coupler will open every time you do this(the end that gets center rail power).  You could wire it - one coil wire to ground & the other to the remaining shoe.  It would dump with the "Uncouple" button in this configuration... it would also be more prone to accidental activation if the shoe catches a hot rail.

The 3461 doesn't have this uncoupling problem, and if you really wanted to, you could also rewire a 3461 - one coil wire to ground & the other to both shoes.  It would also dump with the "Uncouple" button in this configuration... it would also be more prone to accidental activation if one of the  shoes catches a hot rail.

They are the standard 2411-4 individual stakes, readily available from any parts dealer.
