Crew Dialog with TrainSounds
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, December 9, 2007 2:36 AM
I'm having trouble getting them to talk.  I put the train in neutral and hit the whistle button, is there something I am missing?  I did disable the smoke.... is that the problem?

Disabling the smoke on the locomotive wouldn't make the crew chatter from the tender stop.

We have the Trainsounds Polar Express tender and it provides crew chatter when the whistle is blown in neutral.

Park the train in neutral and wait 15 seconds before blowing the whistle.  Then try waiting 15 more seconds and blow and you should get a different script.  I usually don't get any crew dialog if I turn on the PE Trainsounds tender and immediately blow the whistle...you probably have to wait a couple seconds...try 15.

Roland

Are you hearing the chuff when the tender rolls? and are you hearing steam/compressor sounds when parked in neutral with power on?  You should hear this all the time.

Ah might be a bigger problem then, don't hear the chuff or park sounds....

Looks like it was an I-D-1-0-T error...  I didn't even realize that there was an on/off button for trainsounds on the bottom of the tender...  the manual never made any references to it.... hahahahah  My fault, I should have looked more carefully at the car, only when I thought about openning it up and checking the wiring did I see the switch.... hahahahah

Who knows, maybe someday Lionel engines will have more computing capacity than the first craft we sent to the moon.

yea...OFF does not stand for "On Full Force"  I could see how you might mix it up though; I've seen US Navy fighter pilots make the same mistake. Big Smile [:D]Wink [;)] Glad to hear you got it working.

My nieces did the same thing- took the Trainsounds tender out of the box, replaced the orginial PE tender with the new one, ran the train, and told me it was broke (no sounds). I asked them if they turned it on-" you mean you have to turn it on?". Kids today... Confused [%-)]

New problem, once in a while, the trainsounds will not work.... I flick the switch on and off take the tender off the track and put it on, and it will come back sometimes....  any insight?  Is this a common problem with the trainsounds tender?

You either have a bad sound board, a loose wire, or problematic pickup roller.

Actually, I see some sense in what he says. My bewitched, bebothered, and hexed Southern 0-8-0 with Trainsounds will start "talking" every minute or so when the smoke unit is switched off.

I think the evidence is in: Trainsounds is the work of the Devil.

I have a Railsounds tender and a Trainsounds FT diesel. When they blow the whistle or horn on their own, they are telling me that the track needs to be cleaned.

To clean the tracks, do you just use alcohol wipes?  Just want to hear so that I don't end up breaking more stuff....hahahah

My Southern PS-4 (the "Trainsounds/SignalSounds" version from several years back) performs that function admirably. When the track is dirty it starts whistlin' away and sometimes ringing its bell in alarms. A Really Useful Engine, it's true.

You can. I use ScotchBrite pads and isopropyl alcohol myself.

I never thought about using alcohol wipes, but it's a great idea. I use isopropol alcohol (91%) on a paper towel about once a week. Once in a while, I use a Scotchbrite pad to remove stubborn deposits.

Don't forget to do the inner sides of the rails. Many often overlook that, but the wheels do contact the inner sides of the rails and they need to be cleaned.
