Lionel 027, tinplate, diesel, passenger, 4 car set, red & chrome/silver, cars connected with walkway and pin goes from top to bottom, release on top of car. Stream line, rounded edges. 4 exhaust diesel ports on top of engine.

Need model #, name, value. Info much appreciated.

It sounds like a Lionel Flying Yankee. They were sometimes painted red on the front end.

Lionel Jr 1700E. Made 1935-37. Worth no more than $125..if that. Lionel 027 Jr is exactly how you described.
