Lionel 2 motor E-unit re-wire
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, October 19, 2007 4:21 PM

I have a MTH Amtrack engine that has been converted to 2 lionel motors with e-unit.  However, it is not wired.  Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as a schematic on how to wire or SIMPLY explain how to wire.  It's a nice set that's sitting idle until I can get the engine up & running.

Thanks in advance.

One end of the motor field coil should already be connected to the truck frame.  If not, connect it.  Connect the green wire from the e-unit to the other end of the field coils of both motors.  Connect the other two wires, probably yellow and blue, to the brush terminals, in parallel.  Connect the pickup wire to the e-unit terminal that connects to the coil and, through a short wire, to the e-unit brushes.  Connect the e-unit frame to the truck frame (or the locomotive frame if that is connected to the trucks).

I have assumed that you are using the most common type of e-unit.  There are some special versions that are wired differently; so let me know if yours doesn't fit my instructions.

Here's a link to Olsen's site (postwar locos) where just about anything can be found in the library http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/searchcd2a.htm

The below link is directly to a wiring schematic for the twin laydown motored 2343.  Not sure which motors fit in your MTH but if it's not these I'm sure Olsen's will also have schematics for the motors you've used.
