Conversion Quesiton
Posted by Fred Bear on Thursday, September 6, 2007 4:16 PM
Could a person take the trucks from some Lionel stock and make log cars? I know Lionel made log cars, but the new Lionel log cars, the non dumping variety, skeleton log cars I believe they are called, look like the stuff used in the old logging town of Shay, West Virginia, but they are tough to find. I can make the bodies, the Andrews trucks or Atlas trucks are $15.00 a set, could a person fashion the Lionel trucks to fit? Seems as if it could be done, anyone else try anything like this? and what were your results? Respectfully, Jake

Jake,

If you want a set of the Lionel cars, Trainbuddies (www.trainbuddies.com) has two sets available - West Side Lumber and Western Maryland; on their site search on Skeleton.  The Trainbuddies are great guys to deal with - I bought a set of the log cars myself two months ago.

Also, Atlas Industrial Rail is making some nice skeleton cars.

I know you were asking more along the lines of building cars but thought you may want to know of some sources in the event that you can not get what you want built.

Thanks Luther for writing, I'll try train buddies.  The cars I seek are the Lionel 6-29434, not dumping deals. Thanks again, Jake
