Interesting that the route goes thru countries like Serbia and Macedonia.  It wasn't that long ago that they were in a shooting war.

A shooting war based on ethnic intolerance amongst a population that had once accepted each other as human beings.  It is amazing what politicians can create.

It was tragic,  but the history of ethnic and religious conflict in the Balkans is long,  deep-seeded and also recent.

Start of a HrSR route from Budapest to Athens.  This maybe will finally get an all rail HrSR route from rest of Europe to Greece ?

Higher Speed Rail from Budapest-Athens (salsalabs.org)
