Going to ride them again in Feb from Dallas to Chicago.    Hopefully the new FRA ruling means a faster trip instead of the 4-6 hours of scheduling padding nonsense.

Reading about how OT is to be calculated at ALL passenger stops - I can only see schedules getting padded even more.

Suspect 7 day operation may return when full stadiums are permitted for sporting activities as well as unrestricted operations of other forms of human interaction are permitted.

Those with actual knowledge of the vaccines and their distribution are talking late 3rd quarter or 4th quarter 2021.

The short answer is when market demand returns to levels near those prior to the onset of COVID-19.

 

Management will review the demand for long-distance travel in February as per the following:

 

“Amtrak will compare advance bookings for June 2021 (as of February 15, 2021) to advance bookings for June 2020 (as of February 15, 2020). If the percentage of available seat- and room-miles booked in 2021 is at least 90% of the 2020 percentage, this condition will be met. (Note that calculations of availability for 2021 will reflect any caps on ticket sales to promote social distancing, as well as any other relevant measures adopted to minimize COVID-related risks.)”

 

According to recent statements by Flynn, as well as other Amtrak executives, returning long-distance trains to daily service is dependent on getting additional federal financial support.
