SD70Dude
RMR is a cruise service, so it is not surprising that they are not operating this year due to the pandemic.  Hopefully they will be back to normal operations in 2021.

So I chit chat on the Next Door App on just Amtrak travel.    There are about 300-400 neighborhoods and about 36,000 people on this app just in the small region of Northeast Dallas I live in .    So I repeated my publication of traveling on the Texas Eagle and there were about 6 or 7 new people that never rode a train before that thought it would be an excellent trip once the pandemic was over and I was getting a lot of questions as to price, accomodations, etc.

Point is, prior to the pandemic nobody paid attention to these posts I did.    People are really getting desperate for a REAL vacation though and are so sick of restrictions that I suspect there is going to be a large increase in travel by train and cruise ship after a vaccine is found and in use.     Probably not so much for Amtrak but I can see the Rocky Mountaineer swamped with demand next year and running sold out along with the cruise ships......if confidence in travel is restored that quickly......which is another big IF.   Could also take 2-3 years.   Hell even my cousins approached me at the last Family Reunion asking about taking a LD Amtrak trip in the next 5 years.   They wanted it to be like a family outing and rent 10-12 compartments on the Empire Builder (so I am thinking to myself rather greedily......time to suggest private railroad car travel......heh-heh).

They had just worked out the OK with CN to still operate over the shuttered ex-BC Rail route this year.  I am afraid that by next year the BC Rail line will have deteriorated too much to allow passenger trains.

It's such an awesome trip! I wrote an article for TrainReview on the Rocky Mountaineer trip - It's such a shame it got cancelled. If anyone's interested here is my article on the Rocky Mountaineer.
