What is truly astonishing is the support he has from his followers. They really, really like him as Sally Field said once. And they're the ones with guns.

They aren't the only ones with guns.

Which makes me fear for the future. I would not want to see the presidential election delayed until "The current state of emergency has passed" and if the results are not to the liking of the incumbent will there be a "Reichstag" fire?

This brings up something I could rant all day about.  I blame in great part our education system.  From first grade on we are told to accept what we are told, don't question it, just memorize it, it's going to be on the test.  2 + 2 = 4; don't try to analyze it or question why.

Loyalty is a top priority.  "My high school is the best high school!  Yay, team!"  In other words, attach yourself to a group so that you don't have to think any more.

I often found it frustrating working with new-hires troubleshooting problems.  They would decide what was bad, and when I knew from experience that they were wrong, rather than telling them so I would ask, "Why do you say that's the problem?"  All I got in reply was, "I know it, I just know it!"  Any further questioning would not get any logical reasoning, but just fierce loyalty to their original opinion.

   I've got to stop now.

I share the concerns of all three of you.  With a corrupt, incompetent current occupant,  he knows that if he loses,  he and his cronies will no longer be immune from any criminal prosecution,  state or federal. Fear breeds desperation and danger.

From last year, from those most esteemed purveyors of the original, the best, the greatest (dare I say gold-plated?) fake news.

Why do we have to tolerate this posting of partisan political demagoguery,  whether a joke or not?

You can always report the thread, I won't mind, in fact I'm amazed it has lasted this long.

But never fear, I'm sure the other side is preparing a response of equal tone and substance.

I was merely paraphrasing his own grievance from the previous page, when the tables were turned.

Says the guy Murphy's Siding nailed years ago.  The difference, which you were unable to spot,  is that the facts are on the side of the postings from people like Balt,  while the Mining Guy was posting dangerous conspiracy fiction. False equivalency arguments abound.

Then it would be safe to say that you "loathe" the current occupant of the White House?

It really would be unfair to all the other politicians if I was to claim that I loathe only him.

From my perspective I think that the choice we invariably get saddled with is one in choosing the lesser of the available evils.

And I believe that this country successfully  did exactly that in 2016.

So Trump was preferable to you over Hillary Clinton. How do you feel now?

Article in Guardian that states it may be difficult to impossible to make a vaccine.  They cite that a SARS vacine has yet to be developed.

Actually I'm a dual citizen. I was a registered Republican when I lived in the States and did vote for Obama twice. But the Big Cheez Doodle? I hated him thirty years ago when he was a crass jerk of a real estate developer in New York City- there wasn't a day that you didn't read about him in the papers.

The key thing about him is, he's new money. Old money (Vanderbilts, Rockefellers) do not like pushy upstarts like him. His whole thing is "I'll show them!" And he has.

Dumb Ways to Die was a MUCH better PSA.

Perhaps Trump Ways to Die could now be updated with more sense in it than before...

(Personally I loved the DWTD game, even if it wasn't relevant to the railroad PSA message...)

Thought some of you might enjoy this link describing how the election of 1918 was affected by the Spanish flu pandemic that year  (scroll down)

As well as this story recounting how the "second wave" of that pandemic was so crippling.

Perhaps we should postpone the election scheduled for later this year, and try to avoid a second wave?  Mischief

you voted for

That's one of the pitfalls you risk of making assumptions. I didn't vote for anybody.

They are all bad animals in my book.  I have not voted since I voted for Perot.
