It takes two to tango, and it almost always includes the same handful of people on both sides. Over, and over, and over.
How the one group continues to convince themselves that they somehow are "fighting the good fight" is beyond me. Once you shovel that stuff long enough it all smells pretty much the same, regardless of the source.

A lot of us "true believers" are here because of the power and the glory, the pomp and the poetry. I'm not ashamed to admit the heavy technical stuff makes my head swim, but I'm glad the techies are on board just the same.
It's sad when people united by a common interest can't seem to get along, but human nature being what it is I suppose it's a bit inevitable.

NDG-- Interesting perspective. There are many on the Forum that trip over themselves reaching vainly to impress us with their genius. A lot of emptiness and a whole lot of nuthin'.
Exquisite technical explanations and counter arguments are not part of this at all. These are required and eagerly sought after so that we may all learn and benefit.
Assuming the Internet is forever it's important that those of us lucky enough to have experienced the post war years try to relate the stability and importance that railroads had, the absolute magic of it all and then witnessing and experiencing the wholesale changes and decline of it all. ( aside.. I would say things were as they always were up until about 1955-56, then the sad end began in earnest. Perhaps a bit earlier Stateside).
I witnessed Hudsons on the CASO and through Burlington/Hamilton on the TH&B. ( another aside.. never saw a Niagara, damn!). The importance, vitality and richness of the CNR station in Hamilton, how the CPR/TH&B station looked and functioned when it came to life. Maroon heavyweights with plush seats and heavy black iron fixtures, the dreamy scents of creosote. For others it's the Erie, or Central Vermont. It goes on and on, we need to pass on the best of these experiences because in the future it's important that this not be lost and never known.
Thats way more than nostalgia, it is a look at how society functioned and functioned well.
So yeah we all get to do the face plant into the rigatoni or mushroom soup but we can leave a legacy of good words and accounts.
We should listen more carefully to CGS ... or should we?

One problem with many people on these Forums is that they are on here from Dawn to Dusk, think they own the Forums and appear to have ' No other Life ' than to squabble, maunder and nit pick, and to find fault with every little thing on events, locomotives, staybolts, feedwater heaters subways and branch lines and prove just how ' clever' they are.
Much of the data on here is from decades ago and of little value outside the parameters of these Forums.

Rode a FL9, too, a FB1 still in the Green/Yellow, saw The Sharks lettered NYC, was in Detroit before it became a S hole and went up to Ottawa behind a Royal Hudson c.1950 at great velocity. decades later rode back down to Vankleek Hill on a CP 1400 over Eighty.
Steel doesn't even go there, now, where the Traction Motor Gearing once governed the Running Time if 244 on the job.

The same exact argument has hit multiple threads over like the past 18 months. It should have been enough to get someone suspended but my guess is that someone who should have got bounced was either the person who hit the alert button or it was someone not part of the argument tired of seeing the same argument resurrected multiple times.
Two choices on this one.

I agree.
Recently, one thread (20 years later) was locked because two posters were exchanging acrimonious remarks.
I suggest that in the future , when two (or more) wish to express such thoughts they make use of PM's so they others may continue to use the thread which otherwise is in danger of being locked.
