The CN has had to close their tracks south of Hammond to NOL due to flooding. There is no indication that the Bonnie spillway will be closed any time soon. In fact Amtrak has already cancelled thru June.
The continung cancellations of the CNO south of Jackson has placed a full train set of Superliner cars and locos not in service. Now what has Amtrak done with this train set?. Is it still in NOL or has it been rerouted back to CHI? Is NOL maintenance working on these cars and putting each one when complete onto the Sunset? The problem with that may be when the Mississippi continues to flood the Sunset may not be able to operate Houston <> NOL.
Then what does Amtrak do ? More to the point these extra Superliners could be used to add extra seats to sold out trais. Actually the CNO is sold out for at least the next 4 days CHI - JAN.
