Seems Amtrak is going to finally upgrade from it's microwave to a high speed convection oven that can cook 24 meals at once instead of just one per the microwave. If true that is going to be revolutionary on speed and efficiency of service in the dining car. Of course it also depends on what type of meal is the input but convection ovens tend to cook a lot better tasting food than microwaves.
Allegedly they are experiementing with the new ovens now on the Lake Shore Limited and Capital Limited and now offer a hot meal selection to Sleeping Car Passengers. However, the menu is still limited.
