T S A Slow Down - Can Amtrak Gain
Posted by Victrola1 on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 8:42 AM

The media is running stories about T S A delays due to the government shut down. The lines and wait at airports is running longer than usual.

Does Amtrak stand to gain passengers as a result?

Assume more than a few decide to give Amtrak a try rather than fly. Can Amtrak handle an unforeseen increase in new business?  What impression will Amtrak make on new customers?

Maybe a bit in the northeast, but for the most part Amtrak does not compete with the airlines.  Adding an hour at TSA will not make Amtrak more competitive on something like a Chicago to New York itinerary.

There may be a chance here in Atlanta. TSA vacancies are rising at ATL airport and there is great concern for the Super Bowl time.  The Crescent could get a spike especially if New Orleans Saints end up in the game!  Now any bets that Anderson will deign to meet the demand if it happens?.  Don't bet on it!
