At least they can still get a one-seat ride in a sleeper, which the New Yorkers might prefer to keeping checked baggage...

NY also has a sleeper to Chicago.  Amtrak Buffalo service is back qt Penn. Sta.

Bostonians should be able to check baggage to Chicago a day before departure, baggage going via NY.

Yes, they should be able to--however, there is no train with baggage service. between Boston and New York City.

This is better? news than Greyhound's announcement that (if you have a higher price ticket) you now may check three suitcases (paying for the second and third suitcases) whereas formerly you could check only two (at no charge) when you had the higher price ticket.
