Most of us are familiar with the "Chessie", the C&O luxury streamliner which never operated. Does anybody know anything about the proposed "Golden Rocket", a triweekly Chicago-LA streamliner to be operated by RI and SP. One set of equipment was actually built. Why was this train never operated?

SP got cold feet and cancelled orders for the equipment it was to contribute to the Golden Rocket pool.
