North of NYC the constant-tension is an easy fix for the relatively new catenary.
South of NYC it's not so easy. Surely they can add the constant-tension weight-pulleys but I don't think the gantry spacing allows for it.
Still, it's 135 MPH vs. 150 MPH, is it really that big a deal for the huge investment to improve 135 MPH to 150 MPH in selected segments between DC and NYP? I want to know how it is.
News wire today mention MN rr detailed appology. This report shows how important it is for the whole NEC to get constant tension CAT. The locations where constant tension has not been in stalled on the NH line will have speeds reduced to 40 MPH. That is going to significantly delay Amtrak as well. This should be a wake up call to all concerned to find funds for all the PRR CAT to be upgraded as well.
This report is really enlightning as to the operational problems caused by high heat both CAT and rail as well...
