"Amtrak Atlas" update.
Posted by ghCBNS on Sunday, July 31, 2011 11:42 AM

Will TRAINS update the “Amtrak Atlas” this year?.......thought it might have been in the July 2011 “Amtrak at 40” issue or did I miss it?

The Atlas first appeared in the June 1991 issue (page 49) with a map and chronological list of 77 route changes during Amtrak’s first 20 years including abandonments, new routes and re-in statements. It was compiled by Mike Schafer.

Subsequently the Atlas has been updated at 5 year intervals by Brian Cutter:

June 1996 (page 88)
June 2001 (page 80)
November 2006 (page 20)

They were at route change item #124 and the last paragraph of the November 2006 update states: “Few would predict what our next update in 2011 will contain but Cutter plans on maintaining the journal”

Hope there will be another update!

Brian Cutter did a similar “Map Of The Month” in the May 2003 issue covering 97 route changes in VIA’s history. Would like to see an update of that one too.

Apparently what you wish is shown on the back cover of the Fall 2011 issue of CLASSIC TRAINS. White River Productions advertises AMTRAK BY THE NUMBERS as "coming soon," being "[t]he complete, fully-illustrated Amtrak roster ... produced ... by Mike Schafer." Though I have no vested interest in this company or publication, I can provide contact information and pricing, if you so reply.

Thanks.......but this looks like it will be an Amtrak Equipment Roster only.......not an Route Atlas update.
