Amtrak is having an impossible time originating trips outbound for a number of reasons,. Mainly the very late arrival of western trains. For example the CZ scheduled to arrive yesterday is arriving almost 24 HRs late.
Other routes are having trouble as well from the south and west. Eastern trains except the Capitol Limited mostly leaving CHI on time.
ALL in all timekeeping for the last few days is terrible.
Any explanation as to why so late?

The CZ is getting nailed by a big track project in Glenwood Springs and then is subject to slow orders in Nebraska and Iowa due to flooding or track work repairing flood damage. In some areas, the tracks have been raised as much as 5 feet to stay above the water. Last I knew the Lincoln- Kansas City line is also out of service, which has trains between those points going via Burlington or Galesburg. The line used for the CZ stop at Omaha is also closed. I was on the CZ out of Denver last Sunday. It was stop or go slow betweeen Lincoln and Galesburg. Result, I was 13 hours late at my destination of Princeton, IL. Those for conections at Chicago got a night in a hotel.
