In the newly-released book, "Amtrak: An American Story," there is a rather detailed, yet small, picture of "The Pit" in Washington Union Station, even better than the one at Union Station's web site. These pictures are uncharacteristically elusive given the embarrassment the Visitors' Center had caused.
I recommend you get this book. It finally shipped this week, characteristically late for the Amtrak 40th anniversary earlier this month, but like Amtrak, it's worth the wait.
