Heard a short news brief from a CNN person this morning. THe gist of it was that the AMTRAK Ticket System was down and there was no way to buy tickets from Stations, On-line, etc.(?)
It seems like a poor way to do things for our Gov't Railroad entity! I understand computer problems, but do not the on-train employees have a ticketing capability?
Heck of a way to run a Passenger Service!
Do any Posters have any further info?
old news: had a thread on it 3 days ago. System went off at 0630 and is now running
Apparently this is NOT old news -- go to the AMTRAK home page to see yourself (Sunday at 6pm). The system is down.

Yes you are correct. The new software has crashed twice this afternoon after coming back up.
Still down.

THanks, Guys!
I refer back to my original POST:

What happens to folks who want to ride? There is no reportage of a back up plan to collect monies or give out tickets. I know it uswed to be the Conductor ( and or Train Crewman) who wrote tickets and collected fares.
Is this still the case with AMTRAK?
I would assume(?) that just because their Ticket Program [Software} is not functioning there is a PLAN B ?
CHECKED WEBSITE JUST NOW :2225 CDT:

Came on line and went off again early this morning and is off as of 0930 this morning
still off at 0950. In hindsight not a good idea to try this upgrade a week before Easter!
Everyone send an e-mail to Amtrak expressing your disdain!
Every state supported service should bombard Amtrak because of loss of patronage.
Ca, Wa, Ill, Wi, Mo, NC, Va, Pa, Ny, Vt, Me, etc.
Wonder if this affecting commuter operations?
Still out of service at 3:15 pm CDT.
To err is human.
To REALLY screw it up takes a computer.

Phoebe Vet To err is human. To REALLY screw it up takes a computer.
And to make it a complete disaster takes a computer programer who does not beta test new software properly. Still out at 1723 EDT. Fred Frailey where are you??
However Julie worked once when web site inop? That is confusing.
Wonder if this is the same software company that did the Trains forum update???
As I type this I checked Julie which is working but web site iinop on other computer. Screwed up web site to computer interface??
Tuesday morning and Amtrak is still down.

AMTRAK website has this notice posted about the site being slow to respond.

FTA: "...The upgrade began Sunday and was supposed to be completed the same day. But as of Monday, service was still down. I checked at 1:15 p.m. PDT and couldn't access the ticket purchasing option. During some checks, the entire website, not just the reservations section, was inaccessible..."Several disparaging remarks quoted at end of article referencing AMTRAK.
Due to a major upgrade of the Amtrak Reservation and Ticketing system, customers trying to book a ticket, look up train status, create or modify reservations on Amtrak.com today may experience slow response or technical difficulties.
If you do experience problems, please visit any one of our stations for ticketing and information or call 1-800-USA-RAIL. We regret the inconvenience and ask for your patience while we work on restoring all systems. Thank you.
