I'm only guessing, but I would suspect track work.  Both NC and VA in the Richmond area are doing a lot of upgrades getting ready for the new South East High Speed Corridor. (If you count 110 mph as high speed)

Both wed and thur of this week the Carolinian did not operate. Do not know for what reason. Today it left CLT over an hour late. Palmetto was also a problem one day this week.
