Mexican passenger news

With the train Maya close to completion a new proposal to build a 1750 kM ( ~ 1087 miles ) passenger route from Tijuana down the Baja California finger to Los Cabos.  As usual the negative posts think only of the 2 ends.  This route may include many locations with no air service.  Intermediat locations now only by Mexican bus ( No comment needed ) or auto  ( again no comment ).

At present no connection listed to Mexican domestic route.  Maybe connect to old SD & AE RR near Garcia to access Tijuana and US rail network.  Passenger access only to San Diego by San Diego trolly.  SD trolly being light rail would preclude any heavy passenger rail during ther day.

Article mentions a proposed map however did not find it.  Hopepfully route will be far enough away and high enough elevation from Pacific coast to make the line hurricane and strong storm resistant.

Skeptical?  IMO yes! But was also skeptical of train Maya.

Train Route Running From Los Cabos To Tijuana Proposed After Success Of Tren Maya - The Cabo Sun

Can we expect that if this project goes thru that a proposal to tunnel from CABO to the mainland will be put forward?

I didn't want to mention this before because I have a suspicion the readers of this forum are going to stampede to the nearest Amtrak ticket office with lots of questions on this but here it goes......WinkBig SmileDevil

Mexico wants to bring back the Aztec Eagle from the border crossing at Texas down to Monterrey, MX.   They brought Amtrak into the dicussion because they want a Northern leg from the border into San Antonio.   Amtrak was brought into it by Rep Cuellar (D-TX).   Some back and forth in meetings, no idea how far it has gone or when the last meeting was.   Mexicans are asking why the United States has trains across the Nothern border into Canada but none South into Mexico.   Not sure anyone told them about the wonderful ups and downs on the proposed Chicago to Toronto service yet or how Canada had to fund a bridge across a river on it's own near Detroit because of iterative arguing on the United States side of the border for close to 20 years.

Traiin Maya failure

They just got CPKC to agree or look into the Aztec Eagle Route from Nuevo Laredo into Monterrey, MX.    Mexican government says they will fund a passenger train on that route.    Which explains why Amtrak officials were in South Texas.    I wonder if this was just a consultation or if they are going to have a train North from Laredo to San Antonio...........h-h-h-h-m-m-m-m.Huh?
