Posted by blue streak 1 on Saturday, September 30, 2023 2:38 AM

Every train traveling on NS is taking delays.  a thumb nail for Crescent #20. Lost 40 minutes to Anniston, another 1"10 to ATL. held  2:21 in Atlanta.  As of 03:09 has moments of 10 MPH running and track speed now north of Gainesville, Ga.

Right now 48,30, 19, 171 all taking major delays.  even 91 caught problems around Raleigh. Here is a sample delay notice that applies to all the listed trains.

Due to a system-wide signal issue on the host railroad, Crescent Train 20, which departed New Orleans (NOL) on 9/29 is stopped north of Anniston (ATN) until further notice. Updates to follow.

EDIT ===Cannot imagine the chaos that NS freight service will experience with crews going dead on HOS. + no hep from government shutting down

Government shutting down or not - is not a concern of any railroad's daily operations.

System wide NS Amtrak trains  took another hit around 0600 this morning.  Could any of this be related to the failure a couple weeks ago?  West Peachtree headquarters must be a bee hive.  Also NS is going to have many crew going dead on HOS.

NS announcement.  Appears another hardware problem. Is this possible the PSR cost cutting is coming to roost>?  Would like to be many flyies on the walls at West Peachtree street.

It would appear that NS has a seriously deficient Information Technology department.

If it happens once - SHAME!  If it happens twice - UNFORGIVABLE.

Anoother system wide failure that got fixe fairly fast. VRE reported. it 15:58  Wedensday.  Signals Reset at 16:17.  What is going on at West Peachtree street?

Manassas Line trains are experiencing delays south of Alexandria due to a systemwide signal issue on Norfolk Southern. Train 327 is holding south of the Alexandria Station. Reverse-flow Train 336 is holding at the Broad Run Station.

EDIT:  Checked status of 20 / 18 Oct.  It  started running restricted speeds south of  Meridian at 13:53 CDT (1453 EDT).  Started back to track  speeds  north of Meridian at 14:41 CDT (1541 EDT)   So, this confirms the VRE post of system wide failure again.

FWIW - In my 26 years of Dispatching for CSX I can only recall one incidence of a systemwide operations shutdown - the cause was a virus infection of the Corporate main frame computer system that 'busy uped' communications to outlying computers such as CADS to the point that CADS system would crash repeatedly.

I have no idea what issues NS is facing.

Norfolk Southern is having a terrible year, between the Ohio derailment and now this not-dependable software.  None of this instills confidence.
