Crescent cancellations.
Posted by blue streak 1 on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 8:17 AM

There are very high Temperature warninngs south of ATL.  Apparently Crescent will be cancelled south of ATL all this week.  That will make for 3 full weeks of cancellations.

The Crescent is a very broken train in very many respects.

Doesn't seem like it's very useful.  As of 10 AM this morning, you could get a DC to Atlanta coach ticket for $132.  Roomette for $352.  For this evening's departure.  Pretty low prices for peak travel season.

Amtrak needs to think about flipping this train's schedule.  Overnight from NOL to Atlanta - it's not hot - won't get annulled during winter trackwork in AL and MS.  Perhaps 6 PM to 6 AM schedule.

Daylight - or as close as possible from Atlanta to NYP. Perhaps something like 7 AM out of Altanta to 7 AM arrival in NYP

Compared to the number of people between Atlanta and Greensboro - there's nobody in AL and MS.  Serve the most people when they are awake.

...and for goodness sake, put a stop in Gwinnett County!  A million people live in Gwinnett alone and if you add in the North Fulton folk, it's >1.5M.

Norcross, Duluth (the RR museum?), Suannee, Buford, it doesn't matter.  Pick one.

I am aftraid that making ATL <> WASH daytime that NS would implement these same heat restrictions on a much longer route.  Roanoke trains are being subjected to heat restrictions.  Not sure of Piedmont services?

Gwinette station IMO will prove more used than Route 128 out of BOS.  Much of North Fulton county & Cobb county (Marietta) would also use trains northbound. 'Who there wants to fight I-75?

For the first time Amtrak alerts finally have listed the cancellations for south of ATL.
