The way things are going, might just be smarter to stick to automobubble travel. Rockford and Chicago proper along with many other central cities aren't very attractive these days.

Amtrak trains are doing fairly well right now with ridership I read in Trains and hear from folks back in Wisconsin riding the Hiawatha trains and Amtrak busses to Green Bay. In fact unbelieveable that both Amtrak and WisDOT are very surprised at the ridership on the Milwaukee to Green Bay busses. WisDOT stated it was especially surprising since one of the busses departs Green Bay at 5 in the morning........surprising so many are riding the bus at that time.

Hope you're right. Little by little people are forming opinions about safety, though.

The Thruway bus service using Interstate 41, (primarily a) Green Bay/DePere/Appleton/Oshkosh/Fond du Lac to Milwaukee connection with the Hiawatha's to Chicago, is really a good service using the best of both worlds right now. Convenient in several ways. The powers that be would be wise to not screw it up with a dumpy train service from Milwaukee to GB.
