Amtrak schedule/nomenclature confusion

Just now, I was looking at the Amtrak train status map. It shows #90 moving north, more or less on schedule, and calls it the Palmetto.

It also shows #89, also roughly on time, moving south, and calls it Northeast Regional.

Both trains are shown as running between NYC and Savannah. Why isn't #89 called Palmetto also?

Is #89 currently between DC and NYC?  Is #90 currently between Savannah and DC?

MY guess is that Amtrak may consider anything between DC & NYC/Boston as Northeast Regional.  Anything outside the Northeast Region is identified by its train name.  Between Boston/NYC & DC there are nominally two classes of service NE Regional and Aceala.

And both trains are both, both Palmettos and NE Regionals.  Same conditions apply to the Newport News train whose special name I forget at the moment.  The Florida trains don't fit this formula because they are not suopposed to carry Washington - NY and intermediate points passengers.

I would like to pick up on the comment by daveklepper pertaining to the differentiation between Florida trains and the Virginia and Savannah trains. That is, that the segment of the Florida routes between New York and Washington is not considered "Northeast Regional" because they don't take reservations for local travel on them in the Northeast Corridor. I thought the same rule applied to the New Orleans route, but was surprised recently to be able to book a coach trip from New York Penn to Philadelphia on the Crescent. You know anything about that? Our seat was in a long-distance coach (an Amfleet car with footrests) that was staffed by an on-board attendant.
