Long Island Railroad power

I was thinking about the LIRR. What type of locomotives do they use? Pix I've seen show what seems to be conventional diesels.

Are the locos dual-purpose, also equipped to use a third rail in the NYC tunnels?

The Trains article about the East Access project mentions a new yard being built that will have catenary. But I don't remember seeing catenary/pantographs in pix of LIRR trains.

What's the story?

Still in training.

Most LIRR trains are electric MU cars.  The service diesels are these:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_DE30AC_and_DM30AC

Dave Goding had input in their design and construction and you could PM him for details.

Remember 'Change at Jamaica'?  The non-dual-modes operate east of that point, so don't need to run third-rail.

The Port Jefferson branch was run with MP15ACs, but those are now apparently entirely in work service, as were SW1001s.  NY&A, last I looked, ran most of its service with stuff like GP38s leased from LIRR but no longer actively used.

I still miss those FAs converted to cab cars.

The article also talked about the Gateway project that will bring in more ATK & NJT.  Also New Haven line commuter service on the Hell Gate line which will being in those trains to Sunnyside/Penn Station.  All these have cat.
