Well, isn't it about time?

With all the wacky procurement problems and weird updating concerns that Amtrak has suffered over the years, getting coherent equipment on a good standard plan from a knowledgeable supplier will be good to see.  I believe Amtrak has already chosen Siemens as its motive-power preferred provider, both for electric and diesel.

What are the current plans to finish up what's left of Viewliner construction or remediation?

Now, what's the current word on supposed delays to the Avelia Liberty 'Acela 2' trains going into service by late 2021?

So the question I have since Amtrak also intends to replace the Superliner fleet after Amfleet replacement.    Will they go with the NightJet Single level sleeper design for accomodations (link below) or with the Siemens bi-level sleeper.

Who knows, maybe Amtrak will even get the in room PA intercom to be compatible with all sleeper builds.    Perhaps it will take the Germans to figure that small problem out?

These will be single-level cars.

As far as I can tell, the replacement for Amfleet and other single level designs will be Single level. There is nothing in the current information about what might replace the superliners so it would not be appropriate to speculate.

Concerns

1.  Will there be challenges by builders who did not get the award ?  That could cause delays.

2. With all the proposed infrastructure work will there be a problem with getting parts ?. Hopefully the present shortage of computer chips will be solved by time they are needed in the new cars.

3.  The states are now receiving some of the Siemens cars.  Not sure if Amtrak will have construction slots along with the states orders or have to fall behind Brightline and VIA.  That could mean delays in deliveries.

4.  If the demand for sleeper space overwhelms the present Viewliner fleet can some of this order be changed to maybe a V-3 by Siemens.

5.  CAF to build more sleepeers seems a lost cause ?
