Good question?  I entered a reservation request for August 26th from Denver to Salt Lake City and the train number is 1105.  But for the return on August 29th, it is 6.

I didn't know either !!! Perhaps there is additional equipment to fend off debris between Helper & Provo ??

Easy ---------  schedule change due to trackwork.  In this case Amtrak cannot schedule two number 5 trains departing station XYZ on the same date.  This always happens when going from Daylight time to standard time.  Just look at the two schedules around midnight that operate the same date.

Look at 1105 date at Salt Lake City and #5 the day after.:
