Miningman I have 4 My Pillows and they are quite good, especially for the neck. They do give very good support and adjust comfortably as you move. I've paid a heck of a lot more for feather pillows that are crap.

Did you know you can make your own My Pillow(with it's own patented fill aka styrofoam popcorn)? Yes, simple to use packing popcorn(people have opened them up) is all that's inside a My Pillow, how he managed to patent it I'll never know.
CMStPnP JPS1 First, if tens upon tens of millions of people had the virus I might agree. But we are talking statistically less than 1% of the population still. Given what percentage rides Amtrak. Lots of IF's there and planets that need to align.

As of noon Sunday; The USA has the 3rd highest reported cases per million population ( 1.3M + cases ). That is 4089 per milllion. So far that is just 4/10th of one percent reported with a case of covid-19. 6003 new so far today. Only Belgium and Ireland have more of the medium to large countries. Both those countries are considered as very strongly reporting actual cases.
However their new cases per cent is much lower than the US.
What is worse is now in the USA 16,816+ cases are critical. Just a wild guess but have noticed that within a 10 - 14 day period that number divided in two will be number of reported deaths. Hope I am wrong.
The death toll for persons over 50 is almost all cases So a much larger percentage of oldsters are dying with the number in nursing care faccilities really high of that number.
What is distressing is the lack of federal USA guidance for setting a consistency of reporting both cases and deaths. I know it is politically hard for bad news to be reported but ???
EnzoampsBut just seemed to me that to the sort of people investing in sleeper accomodations, a couple of "as seen on TV" products won't be much of a draw.
If that were the only draw ... or were touted as its own Big Thing in an Amtrak advertising campaign ... you'd likely be right. It would be, as with many if not most of the other 'improvements' covered in this thread, be part of a more coherent, and effectively synergistic, whole.
There have certainly been companies in the 'hospitality industry' that have seen value in name-brand (and national-brand) bedding -- and with arrangements to buy 'their' bedding for your use at home. Much of that is technically inapplicable to Amtrak, at least as far as 'convertible' accommodations would be concerned ... but the principle for things like pillows, linens, and some other things like mattress toppers is still there, and potentially even a marketable opportunity based on 'finding out for yourself at no additional cost or risk'. There are plenty of places where nasty cheap and inferior product is perceived as spectacular through a combination of pervasiveness and clever marketing (Starbuck's, for example) and I have to wonder whether brand recognition, even infomercial recognition, is better than the sort of no-name lowest-bidder perception of Amtrak's current sleeper provisioning...
There are far better brand-name cheeses to tout on burgers, for the same or lower effective food cost. BUT if you told me you were serving Ro-Tel dip in the lounge car, I'd make the trip ... if it were made with a cheese as good as Velveeta...
Overmodif it were made with a cheese as good as Velveeta
C'mon you know that is offensive to anyone born or raised in Wisconsin. That is not even cheese anymore.......eck.
AMTRAKKERLets face it, the next gen of sleeper is going to be a Siemens corridor coach....
It will be a neat trick for Amtrak to abandon LD trains after spending decades telling Congress their worth to larger society in carrying the elderly and physically challenged to rural communities. Then there are the labor protections attached to pulling the plug on LD trains. Going to take some convincing to get Congress to spend Billions more to save less than a Billion a year. Never seen that happen before but I am not excluding it from happening.
Anyway uphill fight despite the rhetoric you hear from the Amtrak Executives, they really do not have the freedom to pull the plug as long as they have 435 Business Partners sitting in Congress. Perhaps once they are off the dole or free of future subsidies?

Yes, in my experience, "Seattle's Best" coffee is superior to Starbuck's. One hotel I stayed in in Seattle served that brand--and I found it in a grocery store here.

Uses Velveeta.
Make sure you bring your My Pillow roll up go anywhere pillow for back support or neck if you're in a more reclining position.
( funny how My Pillow divides along TDS .. I bought them because they are made in the USA and Canada. Claims of $108 are absurd.. .. actual price is around $60 for 2 and that's Canadian $'s... and you will get the go anywhere rollup one free to boot)
They do as advertised, they don't go flat, but give a nice 'yield' . It's not a Mercedes or a $40 steak.. it's a pillow for cripes sake.
Make yourself a nice Ro-Tel with delicious tomatoes and zesty sliced green chilies and Velveeta!
As for Coffee...Starbucks French Roast .. you can't screw it up no matter a reasonable variance in water/coffee... it's excellent every time. I buy 8 1.13kg ( 2.5 lb) unground beans , grind one whole bag at once , lasts 3 weeks. Perfect cup every time. That's what counts!
Amtrak would benefit from name brand recognition.
I am thinking about a long train trip, and considering spending an extra $500 for a room. I don't know, seems like a lot... But wait, the coffee is Starbucks? Well OK, I'll shell out the half grand.
Sounds iffy to me.

Um No, I have several, it is actually foam rubber types of which some is memory foam. He even implies as much in the TV ad.

Why would you grind the whole bag at once?
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any
Because I can! 3 weeks at a time stays very fresh.. not going to measure and grind every morning .. it's brewed waiting when I awake!
1936 Hobart .. I think it was built by Baldwin, or a tank factory.
Order just came in yesterday .. these are ground at a rate of appx. one every three weeks... hey c'mon I damn near live in the Arctic here, got to think ahead!

Coffee is personal preference. I have tried Starbucks French roast (tastes burned) not at all like in Paris and Seattle's Best (aroma is like uric acid, but tastes decent). My choice is Dallmyer. I
Ever try Roger's Brothers (San Fransisco Coffee Co.)? I'm no coffee snob, but I do like their stuff.

I'll check it out. I'm not a coffee snob (or wine or beer and find the descriptions laughable). I just like what I like.
I just looked at the box. It's actually Roger's Family and San Fransico Bay Coffee Co.

No it ain't. There's no apostrophe in "Rogers" and SanFran has two 'c's when you spell it out.

Not when I spell it.
Just drink the coffee.
It will be interesting to see if anything changes by the Fall. My guess is the mask restriction will be lifted by August and we will have at least a partial decision on the LD trains by start of the next fiscal year in October of 2020.
