Now I have another iconic place to visit in NYC...but how do I get there via transit? ?

There are still NYC Cops today that despise Serpico for being a snitch.   Very sad commentary on NYPD.

i could have done without the violence to answer your question!

Ride the N train toward Astoria, get off at Astoria Boulevard and walk west toward the East River.  You will see the bridge approach pictured even as you leave the train.  The bridge approach crosses above the three-track elevated structure just north of the Astoria Boulevard station.

From Manhattan, the N is underground until crossing under the East River, and then rises on an incline for a across-platform transfer with the 7 at Queensboro Plaza Station.

In the Classic Era, the Astoria line was joint IRT - BMT, and the BMT service was provided by elevated cars running Queensboro Plaza - Astoria, with the BMT steel cars running only to Queensboro Plaza.

The 'French Connection' also has a scene filmed underneath the Hells Gate bridge.
