Wonder what could have cased all these problems ? One puzzler is that it was from New Rochelle - PHL. New Rochelle - Gate CP is 12.5 Kv 60 Hz and not the 25 Hz the rest of the failure. The forensics of this failure will be interesting. Here is Amtrak's notice.
Service Alert: Due to rail congestion caused by earlier overhead power issues, Trains traveling between New Rochelle (NRO) and Philadelphia (PHL) may be delayed between 90min to 120min.
I'm real glad to hear that Amtrak keeps a "rescue locomotive" on hand to help with trains disabled in the Hudson (and presumably East River) tunnels. Who can tell us more about this? e.g. Where is it kept? How quickly can Amtrak assemble a crew for it, and where are they usually stationed? How often is this "rescue locomotive" pressed into service? Also, does MetroNorth have anything similar to help out at GCT in cases of power interruptions or problems?
LIRR used to keep a pair of SW1001's fitted with MU car couplers on one end as rescue locomotives to move MU car consists out of the East River tunnels in the event of a power outage.

A source that may be correct said any Amtrak crew for any train that is in the ready room of NYP can be used if they are diesel qualified. Take it for what you think it is worth ?
